Life Is Strange: Double Exposure Attracts Criticism For Asking Fans To Pay $30 Extra For Early Access

Life Is Strange: Double Exposure has caught a lot of flak from fans over its Ultimate Edition, which gives players early access to Chapter 1 & 2 — but only if you pay $30 extra for that privilege.

The Ultimate Edition of the game retailers or $80 compared to the regular $50 standard edition, offering access to both of the aforementioned chapters on October 15 — two weeks before the game’s general release. There’s also some cosmetic stuff included and a side quest for Max to tackle.

However, this hasn’t gone down with fans, in part not only due to the extra money required for early access, but also because it inevitably means spoilers will hit the web before the main release date.

Speaking on Reddit, one fan wrote, “People will buy it Day 1 just because they have the money and love Max. Hate this practice so much, especially in this genre where spoilers can ruin the experience.”

Another added: “To avoid getting caught up in spoilers I will be pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition. “A very bad decision by Square Enix.”

Life Is Strange: Double Exposure is due out on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. The game sees the return of Max Caulfield, the protagonist of the original Life Is Strange, as she attempts to safe the life of her new friend, Sifa, by using her newly-discovered powers that allow her to jump between different timelines.
