Square Enix has announced that Episode One of Life is Strange will be made available permanently free of charge from July 21 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
The debut chapter of Dontnod’s time-manipulating teen drama series would have previously cost you £3.99, so hold off until tomorrow in case you were thinking of finally making the jump.
“By making the first episode of Life is Strange free, we’re really excited to welcome new players to the world of Arcadia Bay and our passionate, vibrant community," said Jon Brooke, Square Enix’s Vice President of Marketing. "We’re incredibly pleased with the awards that the series has won to date as well as the support that our community have given us throughout the campaign.”
Life is Strange consists of five episodes, and tells the story of Maxine Caulfield, an 18-year-old college student who finds herself able to rewind time. Players are able to shape the story depending on the choices they make throughout the game, with some having bigger consequences than others.
Originally released as a digital download, Life is Strange was later released as a physical limited edition box featuring various bonus content. Despite the game’s success, Dontnod isn’t working on a sequel, and instead creating the horror-themed adventure game, Vampyr.
