Mafia 2 to be released in fiscal year 2009

In 2002 the videogame industry saw the debut of the 1930s inspired title, Mafia, released on the PC platform and later ported over to the PlayStation 2 two years later. The game was revolutionary in the terms that it placed the gamer in the shoes of a foot-solider, trying to climb the ranks of a mob family.

The game received fair review scores across the board and for years now, gamers have be waiting anxiously to get their hands on Mafia 2, which was announced last year for the PC and next-generation consoles.

The wait to continue the crime drama may be coming to an end as publisher Take-Two has finally shed some light on a potential release date for the highly anticipated sequel. This news comes off the heels of a financial conference call held on Tuesday where the company revealed that Mafia 2 would release in fiscal year 2009, which is between October 2008 and November 2009.

Mafia 2 will follow a similar GTA-inspired “sandbox shooter” scheme, with the action taking place in the late 1940s and early 1950s induced by a Hollywood driven cinematic experience.

Indeed, with Grand Theft Auto IV and Saints Row 2 releasing in 2008, Take-Two will have no difficulty establishing Mafia 2 in 2009.
