Mafia III sounds like a PS4 completionist’s dream come true

Speaking during an interview with GameSpot, Hangar 13’s Haden Blackman revealed that Mafia III is going to be pretty substantial in terms of game length.

Blackman not only assured gamers that the upcoming crime drama is “hours and hours long,” but more importantly, it’s designed to take into consideration multiple playthroughs.

"We’re not talking about the exact hours yet, I’m a completionist too," he said. "It is hours and hours and hours of content. I hope that people are encouraged to replay and see things that they didn’t see before. Hopefully people go back and look for those little hidden gems.

"I wanted to build games that really tried to push the notion that the players co-author in the experience," Blackman continued. "We have that tag line for Hanger 13, that every player’s story is unique. That’s definitely something we want to try and push for everything that we do."

2K announced yesterday an October 7 release date for Mafia III on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One. The game will also receive a Deluxe and Collector’s release, featuring a host of additional digital and physical-based content, plus various pre-order bonuses to boot.

Set during 1960s, Mafia III takes place in New Orleans and places gamers in the shoes of Vietnam veteran, Lincoln Clay. Having now returned home, Clay finds himself the target of the Italian mob, and after an attempt on his own life, decides to build up his own empire and seek retribution.

The game was initially believed to have been in development at 2K Czech, who worked on the first two Mafia games. However, that outfit was folded in early 2014, and out of the ashes formed Hangar 13; Blackman heads up the studio, and is an industry veteran having worked for years at LucasArts.
