Bungie has announced that it will be hosting a Marathon Closed Technical Test from October 22 — 28, 2025 for players on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in the US and Europe, with signups now open.
This is an important checkpoint for us as we test our improvements since Alpha, including three maps, five runner shells, prox chat, re-tuned combat pacing, solo queue, deeper environmental storytelling, and more. That said, the Technical Test build is a work in progress and will only include a portion of what’s planned for Marathon’s full release, focused on the early player experience.

Marathon was originally scheduled for release in September 2025 before being pushed back to an as-yet undisclosed release date, although Sony has said that the game is set to launch by March 2026. A report by Forbes late last month stated that the game is unlikely to rear its head again until November at the earliest, and as it predicted, did not show up at Sony’s latest State of Play event.
Marathon sees players working as crews of three as they comb the lost colony on Tau Ceti IV for powerful weapons and equipment, battling against AI security forces, otherworldly foes, and rival Runner teams also competing for loot. However, while death is pretty much a given in this cut-throat world, you’ll return to keep everything you previously scavenged, allowing you to grow in power and fill your vault during matches.
Bungie will released Marathon for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.
