Speaking during a new video posted by Sony Interactive Entertainment on Project Amethyst, PS5’s lead architect Mark Cerny has revealed that he’s looking forward to implementing a host of AMD’s next-generation technical achievements – including Radiance Cores, Universal Compression and rendering features – to a new console down the line. In other words, the PS6!

Cerny was talking alongside Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Computing and Graphics Group for AMD, where the pair discussed what to expect from Sony and AMD’s partnership, Project Amethyst. In case you missed our earlier coverage, this will include the addition of Radiance Cores, and is building technology that define the PS6 – even though Sony isn’t explicitly naming it yet.

The hardware wizard noted that he’s “really excited about bringing them to a future console in a few years time,” which does match with previous rumours that Sony’s next-generation console will arrive in 2027 or 2028. One of the biggest stories doing the rounds is that the PS6 will be accompanied by handheld device, which is supposedly going to surpass the Xbox Ally X and Nintendo Switch 2 in raw power.
