Capcom is working on the latest instalment in its crossover fighting game series Marvel vs. Capcom, according to sources close to Polygon.
Marvel vs. Capcom 4 PS4 coming in 2017?
The site claims that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is currently in production and will be released in 2017, with plans to showcase the game at the PlayStation Experience 2016 alongside the Capcom Cup Street Fighter 5 tournament this weekend.
Polygon goes on to say that the latest entry in the popular fighting series will likely draw much of its roster from properties such as Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers, as opposed to the ubiquitous X-Men cast that have been used in the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise since day one. Could this mean we’ll see Groot and Ant-Man duking it out in place of the likes of Wolverine and Magneto? It’s looking likely.
The last entry in the series, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds, was released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Capcom later released an updated version of the fighting game later that year with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The game still remains popular among the fighting game community, and features in the annual EVO tournament alongside more recent titles.
Presumably, we can expect Marvel vs. Capcom 4 to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, although nothing official has been announced at this point. Stay tuned.
