Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is going to be roughly the same length as the original game, according to Ryan Smith, senior game director at Insomniac Games.
Speaking with VG247, Smith revealed that the development team didn’t want to make Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 an 80-100 hour game, but rather focus on making every mission a memorable experience. Having said that, Marvel’s Spider-Man was about 25 hours long, so it’s not as if it’s a short game.
Spider-Man 2 is in the same ball-park as the first game in terms of overall play time. And we really thought about how to make each of the moments a little more epic, or a little deeper, or a little more story-integrated.
We don’t want this to be an 80-100 hour game, that’s not where we want to be. We want to tell amazing stories, the best we can. We want to make every mission really, really memorable. That’s our goal, rather than going super, super broad. We want to make sure that there’s a story element to everything that you discover in the world. We saw players really respond to that when we did it well in previous titles.
Insomniac Games previously revealed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will take full advantage of PS5 hardware, offering ray-tracing at various frame rates as well as utilising VRR and 120Hz displays.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release on October 20, 2023 for PS5.
