Mass Effect 4 developer BioWare has confirmed that the hotly anticipated science-fiction title is not a prequel to the events of the original trilogy.
Writing on Twitter, the game’s Senior Development Director, Chris Wynn, commented: "Not a prequel, not necessarily a sequel either."
Wynn’s comments on Mass Effect 4 not strictly being a sequel either suggest that BioWare is going to separate itself from Commander Shepard’s adventures, which ties in with previous comments from the studio that it won’t be related to the original story.
Furthermore, this would also make sense when you take into consideration the leaked Mass Effect 4 info that dropped from a survey earlier this year. Could the game end up as a soft reboot of sorts? We’ll have to wait and see.
Mass Effect 4 has been in development for some time now, and is expected to arrive on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One in 2016. Hopefully we’ll hear something about the game at E3.
