Matthews: Project Origin to be more like the PC version

February 13 marks the date that F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin hits retail shelves and the developers of the game are hoping it receives a warmer reception than the original. Of course, I’m not talking about the critically-acclaimed PC version of the title, but the console ports that did less than stellar on retail shelves. Apparently, Dave Matthews, primary art lead on P.O., feels that the ports and expansions have cost the franchise some of its fanbase.

In an interview with CVG, Matthews states that "[TimeGate] took the story in a direction that we didn’t intend," he added. "We look at Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate as an alternate universe, a ‘what could have been’, and because of that it doesn’t necessarily diminish the story that we were trying to tell. F.E.A.R. was about Alma, F.E.A.R. 2 is about Alma, and we wanted to continue the story the way we originally intended."

Matthews also went on to clarify that gamers who are skeptic about the upcoming tri-platform release can expect a level of equality across all three formats. The development team has done everything in its power to make sure that each version is as impressive as the one beside it. It goes without saying, however, that the PC version will be able to push the game a bit further, but the console versions will not slouch off.

"Now we’re handling all three versions, we’ve changed our development structure to develop all three SKUs simultaneously and there’s no lead platform," he said. "While there will be some slight variations between the different versions, so if you’re on PC you can push some things further, our main goal is to make sure the experience is synonymous across all three platforms."

I know that I’m muy mucho excited for F.E.A.R. 2 as I was a huge fan of the original. Who else is pumped for this to finally hit retail?
