UK studio Maverick Games has revealed that it is set to unveil its debut project on June 2, 2026, which just so happens to be the same day that PlayStation’s next State of Play takes place.
The developer, which is made up of core members of the Forza Horizon team, posted a YouTube countdown that is pointing to 6.00am EST/11.00am BST next Tuesday. State of Play of course takes place in the evening at 10.00pm BST, so it won’t be revealed during Sony’s event, but earlier in the day.
Maverick Games was founded in January 2023 by a number of staff members who worked at Playground Games, and is fronted by Mike Brown, who previously served as creative director on Forza Horizon. The studio is based in Lemington Spa, UK, and its first project is confirmed to be an open-world affair for PC and consoles.
Back in February this year, it was revealed that Amazon Game Studios had pulled out of its publishing deal with Maverick Games, which came as part of a shift to “focus on projects that leverage Amazon’s unique strengths and scale,” such as the Tomb Raider franchise.
“This decision allows Maverick Games the flexibility to find a publishing partner whose strategic priorities are better aligned with bringing their game to market. We’re proud of what we accomplished together during our partnership and wish them every success in the future,” Amazon said at the time.
