Max Payne 3’s soundtrack will be up for grabs as a digital download on May 23, 2012, Rockstar has announced.
The soundtrack was composed and recorded by the Los Angeles-based group HEALTH, who will be celebrating the launch of the album with the release of the single TEARS via iTunes on May 15 – day and date with the U.S. launch of Max Payne 3 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The band has plucked influences from Brazil, the main setting for Max Payne 3, as well as New York to create a soundtrack that harmonizes effortlessly with the game’s gritty tone and atmosphere.
HEALTH’s John Famiglietti commented: “Workign on the soundtrack to Max Payne 3 was a great experience.”
“Rockstar gave us the freedom to bring our own sound to Max’s dark story, and we’re really proud of the results.”
“By using a band instead of a traditional composer, we’ve created a soundtrack that sounds completely unique,” added Ivan Pavlovich, Rockstar soundtrack supervisor. “HEALTH have created hundreds of hours of amazing music for the game’s score, and distilled it into a devastatingly moody and atmospheric soundtrack album.”
Max Payne 3 is due out in Europe on May 18.
