The Entertainment Software Rating Board has posted a new listing for a Max Payne title on PlayStation 4.
Right now it’s unknown what the game could be, although smart money says it’s likely the original PlayStation 2 title remastered for the PlayStation 4, as Sony’s started rolling out PS2 games on its current-generation system as of last Saturday.
Hopefully the conversion will seen an improvement over the original PS2 version, which suffered slowdown and reduced visuals in comparison to the PC release. Nothing official regarding the game’s re-release on PS4 has been confirmed as of yet, although hopefully we’ll hear something soon in light of this new rating.
Max Payne was released in 2001 on PS2, PC, and Xbox and popularised the use of bullet-time in video games. Developed by Remedy, the same studio that would later produce Alan Wake, Max Payne was critically acclaimed and received a number of awards, including a BAFTA. Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne was released in 2003, and the series has sold over 7.5 million copies worldwide as of 2011.
The latest entry in the series, Max Payne 3, was released in 2012 on PS3, PC, and Xbox 360. The game was nominated for various awards at the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards, and picked up the gong for Best Animation at that year’s Inside Gaming Awards. The sequel continued the series’ commercial success, shipping three million copies worldwide in its first month alone. Read our full review of Max Payne 3.
