BioWare has announced fresh details on the main protagonist of Mass Effect Andromeda, revealing the mysterious space adventurer’s surname is known as Ryder.
As with the previous Mass Effect titles, Andromeda’s lead will be playable as both a male or female, as was the case with Commander Shepard. The image of Ryder Tweeted below by BioWare’s Mike Gamble is indeed the character’s default female avatar.

Mass Effect Andromeda is currently in development for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One and is scheduled to ship in early 2017.

While much of the game is being kept under wraps, BioWare has confirmed that it’ll take place in an entirely new galaxy, and this time around players will be the ‘alien race’ as Ryder and her crew attempt to find a new planet to colonise for humanity.
Exploration is a key component in Mass Effect Andromeda, and will be facilitated by the return of the Mako, which was last seen in the original game. It’ll also include an entirely new cast of characters, and promises ‘more freedom than ever.’
Those hoping for a remastered Mass Effect Trilogy for PS4 will probably be disheartened to know that it’ll likely never happen, however.
