The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1 is out today, and dataminers have wasted no time in poking around in the game’s files, revealing some references to games that may be featured in a future Vol.2: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker, and Metal Gear Solid 5.
To be fair there’s every reason that we could get Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.2, and MGS4 is an obvious candidate since that game has been stuck on the PS3 since its launch more than 15 years ago. A bundle featuring MGS4, Peace Walker, and MGS5 is definitely a tantalising prospect.
This isn’t the only time that references of the above games have been mentioned, either. In June, the Master Collection website updated its timeline with placeholder buttons for all three games, further hinting at their inclusion in a future collection.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1 features Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, plus the classics Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. The collection is out today for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
Looking ahead, a full-blown remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 is in production at Konami with help from Virtuous Studios, although a release date has yet to be announced. Both the collection and the remake are the start of what will hopefully be successful revival of the Metal Gear series, which has been on hiatus for a number of years.
