At today’s Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event in Tokyo, Hideo Kojima took the stage to officially announce that an oft-rumored Metal Gear Solid movie is officially in the works.
Posters with the slogan "Metal Gear Solid Hollywood Movie" appeared at the event, and Kojima confirmed the project to those in attendance. Avi Arad will be the producer on the film. Arad is widely known for producing many notable Marvel movies in the last decade, including the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, Fantastic Four, the X-Men trilogy, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Amazing Spider-Man, and many more. Arad has also been attached to other Sony video game adaptations, including Uncharted and a rumored inFAMOUS movie.
As Kotaku reports, Michael De Luca of Boogie Nights was attached as producer as recently as 2008, but that version of the Metal Gear Solid movie ultimately fell through due to budgetary conflicts. Apparently, Konami was aiming for a big-budget version of the film that Hollywood didn’t have faith in.
