Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Quiet not playable, confirms voice actress

The voice actress behind Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s Quiet has confirmed that the sultry sniper will not be playable in the stealth-action sequel.

Stefanie Jootsen confirmed the news during a chat with Dutch newspaper (via Metal Gear Informer), Het Parool, where she spilled the beans on her role in the hotly anticipated title, including the audition process.

There was a crate with gun replicas," she said. "‘Take one, and pretend like you’re infiltrating an army base’, they said. Kind of awkward, because I had no idea how to hold this thing. Fortunately, I could draw inspiration from the games I play, the other girls didn’t have a clue at all.”

Once she received the role, the process of capturing her likeness started, which saw the actress’s facial expressions spotted by no less than 37 cameras.

She added: “Before this I received professional combat training. Quiet is a sniper, so I had to be able to handle a gun. The other participating actors were all men who used to be in the army, but for me it was completely new."

Of course, Quiet, as her name suggests, doesn’t speak at all during the events of the game, so Jootsen was mostly recording "groans and hums" during this time.

Finally, Jootsen said that she admires her character as she’s a strong individual, and mentioned her dislike at the way females are portrayed in the likes of Dead or Alive. However, while Quiet wears little clothing herself, the actress said there’s a good reason for this as the game’s narrative unfolds.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is due out on PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on September 1, 2015.
