Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain won’t let you explore while on a mission

Hideo Kojima has revealed that you won’t be able to free-roam in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain while on a mission.

The Metal Gear mastermind spilled the beans during the latest episode of his podcast (via Metal Gear Informer).

According to the report, Big Boss can travel anywhere he likes while not on a mission, with The Phantom Pain featuring a breathtaking open-world to explore.

However, Snake will be constrained during missions, and will fail his objective should the player attempt to leave the area where the event takes place. Missions can be accepted during exploration, as opposed to a menu system.

As you would expect from an open-world game, The Phantom Pain also allows the player to tackle side quests and other bits and pieces when in free-roam mode.

The Phantom Pain is due out in Q1 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
