The latest game in the Metro series has been revealed, and it is indeed a VR title called Metro Awakening VR, and it’ll arrive on PS5 and PS VR2 sometime in 2024.
Revealed during the January 2024 State Of Play, the latest entry in the popular series from developer Vertigo Games is the first new game since Exodus in 2019.
The Metro series is already known for its excellent first-person experiences, putting that same care into a VR experience seems like the kind of perfect combination of elements.

Beyond just being good shooters, 4A Games has garnered the Metro series as having strong narratives as well. If Vertigo continues that reputation with Awakening, this could be the kind of strong release the PlayStation VR2 needs on its platform.
It’s been almost a year since the new headset released, and it still feels like the amount of games available for this new generation of VR is slimmer than it should be.
Some titles stand out like Horizon Call Of The Mountain or Resident Evil 4 Remake VR but only one of those is a PlayStation Studios title.
Hopefully we start to see more headset-selling software releases to keep the PS VR2 going.
