In case you didn’t know, Microsoft’s Xbox One X is almost out, with the mid-gen upgrade set for release this November for a pretty hefty $499 price tag. While the price might be a deal-breaker for some, it seems a lot of Xbox fans are OK with it; so much so that it apparently already outsold its counterpart, the PS4 Pro, on Amazon in the U.S. and U.K. Or has it really?
Infamous Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter recently went on record to call this "fastest pre-ordered" marketing spiel Microsoft is peddling as "bullshit" and he explains why in his latest Pachter Factor episode, which you can watch below.
On that topic, Xbox One X is ranked on Amazon in the pre-orders a year to date, last I looked number 66. I believe the NES Classic was at number 23. It sold 2.3 million units lifetime, and you know that the bulk of those units were sold last year, so this year maybe a million, so if Xbox One X is ranked 48th bellow that, it`s not even close to a million, and of course the Amazon allocation is probably five or ten thousand units, so don`t fall for the bullshit that comes out of Windows Central that tells you that this is the fastest pre-ordered console and Xbox history. They only have a couple. The original Xbox didn`t have big pre-orders. The Xbox 360, maybe, but honesty, who was pre-ordering consoles back then, so of course this is the most pre-ordered, because they are much more organized, and they`re marketing to an install base of 30-35 million Xbox Live Gold members, so of course they`re heavily pre-ordered.
Note that Pachter has also gone on Twitter to apologize for his statements to Windows Central who reported the Xbox One X sales news. Having said that, he only apologized by the "extrapolation of others" and not the actual report; meaning he does think this fastest pre-ordered bunk is a load of BS.
Well, maybe people really are snatching up the Xbox One X given it’s supposed to be the "top-end" experience compared to the PS4 Pro, but fastest pre-ordered though? We’re not so sure.
