Michael Pachter Says Sony Is ‘A Terrible Company’ And Is ‘Blowing It In The Games Business’

Wedbush Morgan Securities mouthpiece Michael Pachter has labelled Sony a ‘terrible company’ during a recent interview with Yahoo Finance.

The outspoken analyst reckons the games industry is going the way of ‘connect to TV,’ and that Sony isn’t playing ball. On the topic of the EA acquisition, which will see the publishing behemoth snapped up by private investors, Pachter made his feelings on the PlayStation console maker pretty clear:

No. Sony — for sure — not. Sony is a terrible company. They actually are blowing it in the games business. Games are moving to ‘Connect to TV’ so think about all the participants that are going to deliver the way we get movies via Netflix. Forget the subscription model; just think about iOS becoming on your TV. So, free-to-play games on your TV. Who is gonna deliver that? Cloud providers. AI.

While we’re on the subject of Sony, it was revealed during a report on Nikkei Asia earlier this week that the company is looking to increase its IP pickups as it wants to position itself as a ‘entertainment trading house.’ The console maker recently announced Franchise Rewards, which offers players the chance to unlock purchase rights for exclusive merchandise by unlocking Trophies in-game.
