Mirror’s Edge Catalyst closed beta free-runs onto PS4 April 22

Electronic Arts and DICE have announced that the closed beta for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will kick off on April 22 for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One users.

Those of you who were chosen as Frontrunners will be able to begin your free-running antics on April 22, although everyone else will have to wait until the next day to tuck into the action.

Signups opened on February 4, although they’re now closed so if you haven’t already registered you’ll be out of luck.

In terms of content, the closed beta will include a number of missions from the upcoming origins story, plus side quests and Social Play features.

"As with any beta, the experience will not be the same as the final product," commented Erik Odeldahl, Design Director. "The Closed Beta is a chance for us to gather your valuable feedback and test the Social Play and online systems before launch. We know that as community members, you will have invaluable feedback on the game and we look forward to your comments and reaction when the Closed Beta start.”

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is due for release on PS4, PC and Xbox One on May 24. The game is a reboot of the series and focuses on the origins of fleet-footed heroine Faith, as she attempts to overthrow a nefarious group of corporate sorts who rule over the city of Glass.

The original Mirror’s Edge was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2008, and while garnering a cult following, did little in the way of commercial success. In subsequent years EA said it had not abandoned the IP, although it took a while for a new game to come into fruition.
