Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has shot down earlier reports that the spherical elements in his latest Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy, were inspired by Insomniac’s title Ratchet and Clank, claiming he has “never seen” the game before.
In a recent interview with the Official Nintendo Magazine UK, the Nintendo General Manager admitted he was “surprised” to hear of Insomniac’s claims, who previously said that the studio was “flattered” upon seeing the spherical worlds depicted in Galaxy.
However, Miyamoto insists this is not the case: “In terms of the spherical worlds and anti-gravity," he said, "we had the original idea as soon as we finished the development of Mario 64 and had been experimenting with it for many years, even on the N64."
"It’s not an idea we got from anywhere else," insisted Miyamoto, before stating he didn’t even know which console the game was released on.
"I’m sorry but I have to admit that I’ve never seen the game in question. Is it a PC game?”
