Capcom is the latest developer to implement an Arachnophobia option for players who have a fear of our eight-legged creepy crawlies, with the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta featuring an Arachnophobia Assistance, as spotted by those who have dived into the teaser this week (it’s now live for PS Plus members).
As reported by Automaton, the Arachnophobia Assistance “adjusts the appearance of multi-legged creatures such as arachnids, insect-like small monsters, and endemic life.” A screenshot of the mode in action reveals that these types of enemies are instead depicted as blob-like lifeforms, although as noted in the description for the mode, it does not affect creature movement or difficulty.

Arachnophobia modes are becoming more common in video games nowadays, with the likes of Hogwarts Legacy also including the feature, as it features giant spiders as enemies at various points in the game. It’s a pity this sort of thing wasn’t around in the days of Resident Evil’s first couple of games, as those giant spiders were nightmare fuel back in the 90s!
Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on February 28, 2025.
