A new report from GamesIndustry.biz says the more game publishers are looking to raise the price of PS5 games.
This news is from their interview with IDG Consulting (a games research firm) and comes after 2K announced that the PS5 version of NBA 2K21 will be $10 more than the current-gen version.
The CEO of that consulting firm, Yoshio Osaki, says that game production costs have increased 200% to 300% depending on the IP, genre, and studio, but prices have remained at $59.99 since the PS3 launch.
The $10 increases from PS4 to PS5 works out as about a 17% increase, which is far lower than the comparative increase in the money put into developing games.
He also goes on to say
“IDG works with all major game publishers, and our channel checks indicate that other publishers are also exploring moving their next-gen pricing up on certain franchises, for the same reasons outlined above.”
The news earlier today came as a shock to some, but it seems like the standard for PS5 games will be $70, which works out to around £56 in the UK (although the prices of games there fluctuate more).
