Digital Eclipse’s upcoming Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection has added two more classic titles to its repertoire in the form of Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Mortal Kombat Special Forces.
Developed by Midway Games, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero launched in 1997 is a spinoff in the series that take place before the events of the original Mortal Kombat, and focuses on the elder Sub-Zero (aka Bi-Han) as he attempts to find Shinnok’s amulet. Unlike the mainline games, MK Mythologies is an action-adventure game and is the final entry in the series to use digitalised actors, although reviews at the time were pretty negative.

Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat: Special Forces fared even worse than MK Mythologies, and is often cited as one of the worst video games of all time. Developed by again by Midway Games, MK Special Forces suffered from a troubled development cycle that saw Sonya Blade removed as a playable character, and sees players controlling Jax as he tracks down criminal overlord Kano. The game arrived for PS1 in 2000, and takes the form of an action-adventure romp using a third-person perspective where you duff up legions of bad guys while solving puzzles and exploring locations.
While Digital Eclipse hasn’t actually confirmed the inclusion of both of these titles in the MK Legacy Kollection, off-screen footage from GamesCom has pretty much sealed the deal. Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection launches later this year for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
