Two months away, only two months away. That’s what fans of the visceral fighting franchise are muttering as they anxiously anticipate NetherRealm Studios next installment of the popular series, simply titled Mortal Kombat X.
Since the game’s announcement, fans have been buzzing about what new features could be introduced into the game as well as speculating as to which characters would be appearing in this popular title.
Mortal Kombat X’s creative director Ed Boon is notorious for slowly feeding fans hints and info on the game’s upcoming features and character roster. This has worked well for Mortal Kombat X as it has kept fans eager for each character reveal trailer and info leak. It’s a smart tactic on NetherRealm’s part as its a good way to keep Mortal Kombat X fresh in people’s minds as each tidbit of news revealed is covered in magazines, videogame sites and online forums.
With the release of Mortal Kombat X just around the corner, Ed Boon and the team at NetherRealm are now releasing more information on the game’s new and exciting features.
The most recent trailer introduced us to one of Mortal Kombat X’s more elaborate online features called factions. Players can now choose between five different factions; Black Dragon, Special Forces, Lin Kuei, The Brotherhood of Shadow and White Lotus. Players representing their factions gain points by defeating opponents from rival factions and by completing various tasks throughout the game’s other modes. You not only gain points for your chosen faction, which contributes to weekly wars where one faction will be declared the winner, but you can also rank up within your team to unlock various rewards such as alternate costumes and fatalities. It will be interesting to see how these factions differ from one another and how points and rewards will be allotted to teams and players.
Dynamic towers is a variation of MK 9’s challenge tower where different challenges can now change daily or even hourly. NetherRealm can even create specific challenges to coincide with certain holidays or special events. It seems that the theme threaded throughout Mortal Kombat X is connectivity. Keeping the online play fresh and exciting is a good way to keep players coming back and, therefore, extending the game’s replay value.
Returning fighters that have been announced lately have gotten fans salivating and eager to fight as their favorite character. The return of Kung Lao, Kitana, Reptile and Ermac have been mentioned as of late. Rumours of popular old timers such as Liu Kang, Jax, Sonya and Nightwolf have been circulating around the net but we should take these rumours with a grain of salt as nothing official has yet been announced.
Within NetherRealm’s latest trailer many have noticed the addition of brutalities which was not formally announced yet seen within a menu of the factions online mode. If that was done on purpose by the developer, we do not know but it seems that we can almost bet that brutalities will be making a return.
With Mortal Kombat X’s release window inching closer we can surely bet on a slew of new information coming our way within the next few weeks. Hope you all have strong stomach because from what we have seen so far, Mortal Kombat X ain’t holding back this time and you would be hard pressed to find someone who wants it to.
