And the loser is…

The start of 2010 came with soaring hopes for Capcom’s jet-pack action game. Dark Void sounded unique and thrilling, and coupled with a beast of a composer like Bear McCreary, it seemed destined to be a brilliant sci-fi action game. The story is simple enough: WWII-era cargo pilot William Grey William flies over the Bermuda Triangle and is pulled into the “Void,” some sort of middle ground for an alien race. The plot falls pretty flat, but the biggest letdown is Dark Void’s core gameplay — it’s extremely frustrating and repetitive. The on-ground shooting mechanics are dull, flying inside interior spaces is a nightmare, and the game sports loads of audio and visual bugs. Sure, McCreary’s soundtrack is phenomenal, but it didn’t prevent Dark Void from being a massive disappointment.

And the Community Criticism goes to…

The PSU community wasn’t too psyched about Dark Void, but the biggest loser was Obsidian Entertainment’s Alpha Protocol, which lapped up 31.8% of the votes for Most Disappointing Game of 2010. The mad mercenaries Kane and Lynch were next in line, with Dog Days accounting for 27.1% of votes cast. Dark Void and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 each accumulated 14.1% of the votes. 007 escaped relatively unscathed, with Blood Stone last on the list with 12.9% of the votes.
