Wayne Shiu, the Product Marketing Manager for Namco Bandai, recently sat down to discuss the company’s upcoming fighting game Soul Calibur IV, and its inclusion of Star Wars characters Darth Vader and Jedi Master Yoda.
Speaking to Siliconera, Shiu touched on the decision to separate each character, rather than to release them across both formats, stating, “With Soul Calibur 2 we had platform exclusive characters, but this time around we wanted to give each platform a signature character”.
In regards to the developer’s choice of platform for each of the iconic fighters, Shiu explained that it was simply down to aesthetical differences, adding:
"We decided to bring Vader to the PS3 because he’s dark and black. Then Yoda went to the Xbox 360 because he’s green."
However, he did hint at the possibility of putting each character available for download, allowing players to pit the Sith Lord and Jedi Master against each other if they wish. Despite this, Shiu didn’t see cross platform multiplayer between the PS3 and Xbox 360 a likely candidate.
Soul Calibur IV is due out on PS3 and Xbox 360 in spring 2008.
