Naoki Hamaguchi Confirms Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Is ‘Proceeding On Time And On Schedule’

The director on Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 has revealed during an interview with Comic Book that the highly anticipated RPG sequel is progressing on track, asking fans “just a little longer.”

What I can say is that development itself is proceeding on time and on schedule. We believe it’ll become a title we can deliver with confidence as the culmination of the trilogy. We know many fans are eagerly waiting, and preparations toward the announcement are steadily underway. Please look forward to it just a little longer.

The greatest challenge was thoughtfully evaluating, title by title, how far to push ‘nostalgia’ and ‘innovation,’ respectively, so they could work in balance. For players familiar with the original game, I think what matters goes beyond the story arc itself — it’s the relationships between the characters and the emotions they felt upon discovering this world. Those are elements we can’t afford to treat lightly

Speaking earlier this year during a chat with Bloomberg, Hamaguchi-san revealed that he’s hoping the release of the concluding chapter in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy isn’t “going to be too far in the future,” giving hope that a formal reveal will take place later this year. He also confirmed during the same interview that locations such as Rocket Town and Wutai will be included in FFVII Remake Part 3.

Speaking in a separate interview with Automaton in February, Hamaguchi explained that the development team decided to stick with Unreal Engine 4 rather than transitioning to its successor would have potentially risked progress being stalled on the project, had the roadmap for Epic Games’ tech experienced any delays.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is currently in development and is without a release date. Unlike the previous games in the series, Square Enix is also working on the title for other formats, although assured fans that its quality won’t be compromised despite not focussing on one platform.
