Echodog Games has lifted the wraps off the PS4 version of Signs of the Sojourner, a narrative-based card game launching for Sony’s console on March 16.
Development started out back in summer 2018 under the working title Project Thunder, where the basic pitch was ‘your deck is your character.’ The game underwent multiple changes and at one stage featured mechanics similar to those found in Slay the Spire and Magic: The Gathering, although this wasn’t the direction the team wanted for the game.
Signs of the Sojourner was originally released in 2020 for other formats, with the team settling on a direction that placed emphasis on symbols and stringing together sequences. This brought more of a focus on themes of identity and personal growth for the player.
Echodog added that different communities favour a specific card and deck type, and as you travel the game’s Earth-like setting, it’s up to you how to build your deck. There’s also no ultimate deck that can ensure you get a favourable outcome in all conversations, and there’s multiple endings to unlock by replaying the game and using the different decks and paths on offer.
Signs of the Sojourner is scheduled for release on March 16 for PS4.
