Naughty Dog‘s Neil Druckmann has revealed in a post on the company’s official website that it has new projects currently in the early stages of development for The Last of Us.
We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages – so we can’t say much about them at this point. I will tell you that both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II. The world of The Last of Us means a great deal to us, and we wouldn’t return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling.
Naughty Dog has long been rumoured to be working on The Last of Us Part III, with DanielRPK claiming back in July 2023 that the game will introduce five new characters, with Ellie also set to make a comeback. Prior to that, a source speaking with TheLeaker stated that The Last of Us Part III is being made with ‘PS6 in mind,’ although it will also come to PS5.
Druckmann stated in September last year that Naughty Dog had considered moving onto The Last of Us Part 3 after completing the previous game, but instead moved forward with its new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. At this point, it isn’t known if one of the new projects that Naughty Dog is working on is The Last of Us Part 3, or a spinoff of sorts, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
