Naughty Dog on why it’s not making Uncharted NGP

Naughty Dog has explained why it’s handed the development torch over to Sony Bend for the upcoming NGP iteration in the critically acclaimed Uncharted franchise.

Nathan Drake’s pint-sized adventure was shown off following the unveiling of the new Sony handheld a few weeks back, but much to everyone’s surprise, series creator Naughty Dog isn’t at the helm this time around.

The reason for this, says community boss Arne Meyer, is due to the fact Naughty Dog sees itself as a “one game studio.”

"We’re a one game studio so it would be very challenging for us," said Meyer, during a chinwag with Eurogamer.

"I know a long time ago we had looked at trying to do that as well, but it’s really about what makes sense for the universe and for the franchise as well," he explained.

Still, Meyer was quick to sprinkle ample praise over the chaps at Sony Bend, though kept mum on any possible link-up between Uncharted NGP and the hotly anticipated PS3 outing, Drake’s Deception.

"Sony Bend’s a great studio, we have a great relationship with them, so it’s really exciting to see a new platform and see what they can do with it given all of the new control options they’ve got as well," Meyer enthused.

"For us it’s really early," he continued. "We’re really excited to see [Sony Bend] work on it. It’s a long road ahead for both of us before release so we’ll have to see what happens between then."
