Developer Naughty Dog has claimed that adventure sequel Uncharted 2: Among Thieves would be ‘impossible’ to replicate on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console.
Speaking to ars technica, co-president Christophe Balestra stated, "I guarantee that this game couldn’t be working on Xbox 360. It would be impossible. I’m 100 per cent sure of this.”
“It’s the combination of Blu-ray and hard drive," he revealed, adding that "every single bit" of the 25GB capacity disc has been stuffed full of Nathan Drake’s latest outing.
Balestra went on to say how the company has taken a lot of time to maximise the capabilities of Sony’s latest home console.
"You can play the entire game without loading. We don’t require an install. We’re doing all the post-processing effects on the SPUs [Synergistic Processing Units]. The quality of the depth of field we have, you can’t do that on the Xbox.”
"We’ve invested a lot of time maximising the power of the machine," he said. “That’s our job, to make the PS3 shine."
While Uncharted 2 appears to be pushing the machine to its limits, its predecessor utilized roughly only 30-40 of the PS3’s capabilities, though still managed to earn itself a reputation as one of the best looking games on Sony’s black behemoth to date.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is due out in October.
