New Uncharted game hasn’t been ruled out

The developer behind the Uncharted franchise has refused to rule out making another entry in the popular action-adventure franchise, though hasn’t committed to anything beyond The Last of Us Part 2 at this point.

Speaking with The Daily Star, Naughty Dog’s Shawn Escayg said the California-based studio is currently in the process of exploring new ideas for future projects, although won’t elaborate any further on what could be next.

“Yes, it’s pretty exciting..We don’t know what the future holds, but you’re right, it could be something new. It could be another Uncharted, who knows. Naughty Dog is not afraid of exploring more stuff.”

“The entire studio is like that, everyone wants to try something new. There are so many new ideas, it’s the culture at Naughty Dog, we love ideas. The studio right now is just teeming with new content and new ideas building up new worlds, new genres. it’s a constant melting pot of new ideas.”

Naughty Dog recently wrapped production on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which is due out exclusively for PlayStation 4 on August 22, 2017. A release date for The Last of Us 2 remains up in the air, although the project is still very much in the early stages of development.

Uncharted 5 release could happen

The subject of a new Uncharted game has cropped up numerous times following the launch of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in 2016. Previously, Naughty Dog had seemingly cut ties with the series, although suggested a new studio could work on a potential Uncharted 5 down the line.

Recently however, Santa Monica outfit seemed to warm to the idea of a new Uncharted, albeit without its lead star Nathan Drake. This would make sense, seeing as how the studio has already explored ideas with Sully and other characters within the Uncharted universe.
