Chris Chung, President of NCSoft, has revealed that the company is planning to unveil its first title for home consoles at some point later this year.
Chung revealed that the firm should have "something to announce–not only announce but to show–by the second half of this year. I’m pretty psyched about that,” he told Wired, at the annual DICE Summit in Las Vegas last week.
Although Chung neglected to go into detail, it is well known that NCSoft is currently under contract with Sony Computer Entertainment to deliver four titles for the PlayStation 3, increasing the probability that the upcoming announcement may indeed be part of this lucrative deal.
For those expecting a PS3 port of existing IP’s such as Tabula Rasa or Guild Wars, however, Chung argues, "that’s the wrong way to do it. You have to create a gameplay that’s really suitable for the console space, the console experience. I mean, it’s very different from PC."
"I think the key is whether the development team really buys into the console. I think we have a couple of development teams that the title that they’re making could be a hit in the console space as well as the PC,” he continued.
“We do have a couple of titles that we have in mind, we’re actively making sure that they’re developing for not only PC but also console. We may have some more in future."
