Internet chatter of a reboot of Need for Speed: Underground have been shot down in flames by Criterion Games.
Rumors of a reboot surfaced when an unnamed source sent EGM what appeared to be a logo for the street racing title.
However, Criterion’s creative director, Alex Ward, seemingly dismissed the reports in a recent Twitter post.
“Totally fake. Remakes and reboots? #movedon,” he said.
Criterion Games is no stranger to reboots, having worked on the reworking of Need for Speed: Most Wanted last year. In addition, it also developed a second Need for Speed title, namely Hot Pursuit.
While the company may not be working on a reboot of Underground, it certainly seems to have something in the pipeline. Recent digging unearthed a couple of LinkedIn profiles from Criterion employees, who make reference to an ‘unannounced racing title’ for Electronic Arts.
We’ll have more as it breaks.
