Two new fighters will arrive in Mortal Kombat as downloadable content, NetherRealm Studios producer Hans Lo confirmed to CVG (via Destructoid).
The first character is a series veteran who originally debuted in MK Deadly Alliance: the blind swordsman Kenshi. The second character is also a part of Mortal Kombat history, but in a less straight-forward manner. In the arcade version of Mortal Kombat II, occasionally a glitch would transform the female ninja character costume blood-red. There was no official name for this character, but fans dubbed her Skarlett.
Both Skarlett and Kenshi will have unique move-sets. "They won’t be copy and pasted from characters already in the game," says Lo, "they’re going to have their own unique fighting styles, moves, fatalities and x-rays – all the good stuff."
In related news, it appears someone snapped a shot of the final character roster for Mortal Kombat. Kotaku got its paws on the image, which we’ve re-posted below.
The characters appear in the following order.
Scorpion – Liu Kang – Kung Lao – Sub-Zero
Sindel – Ermac – Reptile – Kitana
Johnny Cage – Jade – Mileena – Nightwolf
Cyrax – Noob Saibot – Smoke – Sektor
Sonya – Jax – Kano – Stryker
Shang Tsung – Baraka – Kabal – Raiden
Extras/DLC – Sheeva – Quan Chi – Extras/DLC
One of the placeholder spots is likely reserved for the god-slaying Kratos.
NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat arrives on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on April 19, 2011 in the U.S. and Europe.
