NetherRealm Studios has announced that it has officially moved on from Mortal Kombat 1 and shifted gears to its next project, with no new DLC or story content planned for 2023’s fighting game.
While Mortal Kombat 1 is not set to receive any new content, NetherRealm is still going to support the game in terms of patches for balancing and other related updates. The writing was on the wall for many fans when Mortal Kombat 1 Definitive Edition got a surprise launch earlier this month, as it features all released DLC to date – typically this sort of thing signals the end of support for a game.
That said, it hasn’t gone down well with all fans, with many having hoped that Mortal Kombat 1 would get more content as it’s only been out for 18 months. Here’s the full statement:
We are hearing players’ requests for continued game support of Mortal Kombat 1, and, while we will continue to support Mortal Kombat 1 through balance adjustments and fixes, there will not be additional DLC characters or story chapters released from this point on. We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but our team at NetherRealm needs to shift focus to the next project in order to make it as great as we possibly can.
