NeverDead handed western release date

Konami’s slapped a western release date on demonic actioner NeverDead, confirming the game will launch in the U.S. on January 31, 2012, and in Europe on February 3.

Conceived by Shinta Nojiri and co-developed by Rebellion Software, NeverDead pits players in the shoes of immortal gunslinger and swordsman Bryce Boltzmann, who teams up with partner Arcadia to ride the world of malformed demons.

Devil May Cry this ain’t, though, as Bryce can not only be literally ripped apart by his adversaries, but more importantly, reattach lost limbs even if he’s reduced to simply rolling his head around all over the place.

Bryce is equipped with a multitude of firearms in addition to his trusty Butterfly Blade, and must work with and protect Arcadia to vanquish the invading demon hordes.

“For NeverDead, we‘ve gone all out to change the approach the player takes in battle,” commented Nojiri-san.  “Losing a limb is a mere inconvenience and Bryce’s physical skills allow a wealth of ways to take out the enemy – from close-range combat, to throwing limbs into clusters of monsters and shooting them remotely! This adds a level of humour to the game that brings the world-weary main character to life, while players can revel in game worlds that can are fully interactive and eminently destructible.”

Konami also said in its press blurb that NeverDead will "be the focus" of DLC and add-ons, so expect more details on those in the near future.
