As if there was really any doubt Electronic Arts has confirmed (via its quarterly earnings call) that a new entry in the Battlefield series is scheduled to come out in 2016.
Company CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed the news in a response to an investor asking about EA’s upcoming ‘core’ titles by saying:
"What we’ve said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles. This year, obviously, it’s Star Wars Battlefront. Next year, it’s another Battlefield title."
March’s Battlefield Hardline – a Cops & Robbers-style first-person shooter by Dead Space developer Visceral Games – was the last mainline entry in the series and was met with a critically tepid reception.
