Dark Souls 3 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One in April. The game is being headed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator behind the ‘Souls’ franchise, who returns to the fold after taking a backseat in 2014’s Dark Souls 2.

Building on the template set by its critically acclaimed predecessor, Dark Souls 3 looks set to expand the series with a greater emphasis on RPG elements, as well as introducing the new Weapon Stance functionality. As always, expect a new and diverse range of enemies to slaughter as you explore some increasingly dark and grisly environments.

Miyazaki-san first delved into the brutal, grim world of the Souls series back in 2009 with the PS3-exclusive Demon’s Souls. He later spearheaded the spiritual successor, Dark Souls, in 2011 and was also instrumental in the development of Bloodborne, a PS4-exclusive dungeon crawler that shares many similarities with its Souls cousins.

However, the developer has indicated that Dark Souls 3 is to be the final entry in the franchise, and also didn’t seem too keen on working on a sequel to Bloodborne.
