Tecmo Koei has unsheathed a slew of new combat details on the upcoming PS4 exclusive Dynasty Warriors 9.

Omega Force’s latest instalment in its long-running hack-’n-slash series features a highly dynamic combat system, adding a new dimensions to its trademark ‘one versus thousands’ gameplay experience. The State Combo System introduces the ability to perform three different styles (Trigger Attacks, Flow Attacks, and Finish Attacks), each one inflicting progressively more damage against your opponent(s).

Trigger Attacks forms the start of an explosive combo, which is followed by Flow Attacks that adapt to your victim’s current state. If your combo is successful, you’ll then transition into Finish Attack, which delivers a final blow that dispatches any enemy caught in your path. Overall, these enhancements to combat provide a more action-packed and fluid experience than any previous Dynasty Warriors game.

Dynasty Warriors 9 also supports an expansive open-world setting, which is complemented by the new Interactive Action System. This allows gamers to fully utilise their surrounding environment for the first time in the series, letting you scale buildings, wield grappling hooks, navigate walls, and use oil barrels and other objects in the heat of battle, injecting an additional layer of strategy when in combat.

Check out the new Dynasty Warriors 9 trailer below. The game is currently in development for the PlayStation 4 and as of May 2017 is around 40 percent complete. Players can expect a massive character roster this time around, with all 83 combatants from the previous game confirmed to appear in the game, as well as a host of new faces joining the fray.
