New Inside Dead Space Blog Post Explains Why ‘Story Matters’

EA Motive has released the latest instalment in its Inside Dead Space blog series, this time looking at why ‘story matters.’ In case you missed it, the developer unveiled the official Dead Space launch trailer overnight, so check that out here.

This latest post talks about the team’s efforts to balance staying true to the original narrative while adding their own twists where possible. EA Motive already had the core plot from the original game, but worked to flesh out what was already there and make changes for the sake of continuity and consistency.

Senior Game Writer Joe Berry commented:

You’re descending into Hell to save your beloved. That’s one of the oldest stories there is. But the Dead Space interpretation of that is also very relevant, because it talks about corporate corruption, about spirituality going awry, about division versus reconnection….

Joel MacMillan, Realisation Director for Dead Space, commented:

And it plays on fears that we all share. The fear of the unknown, of isolation, paranoia, dehumanization—these fears are common in all cultures, communities, and generations. They’re ingrained in us at a genetic level.
