The director behind Kingdom Hearts 3 has spoke of the development team’s desire to change things up in regards to the combat and MP system in the hotly anticipated Disney-RPG sequel.
Speaking during an interview with VentureBeat, Tai Yasue, who is also involved on the forthcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive prequel, Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue, said that the team wants to enhance the combat experience for a new generation of players.
“Each has its own fun aspects, but I think the magical points system, using MP, is very accessible. That’s worked well. But we don’t want to do the same thing over and over again. In Kingdom Hearts 3 and 0.2 we wanted to enhance this system for the next generation. Using magical spells, we wanted the environments and enemies to react in a meaningful way. It doesn’t just explode. It lingers on afterward. If you shoot a Blizzard, for example, it creates a place where you can skate on the ground. We wanted the magic to dynamically interact with the environments.”
Kingdom Hearts 3 release date still up in the air, new info coming later this year
Square Enix unveiled Kingdom Hearts 3 during Sony’s E3 2013 press conference alongside Final Fantasy XV. While a release date continues to remain elusive, the Japanese publisher has said that more information on the game will be released this winter.
Although the final chapter in the current story arc, Kingdom Hearts 3 is unlikely to be the final game in the franchise. We also know that the much-anticipated sequel will include elements of Big Hero 6 and will completely eschew Quick-Time Events. It won’t, however, include any worlds from Final Fantasy.
More recently, actor Jim Cummings seemingly outed the inclusion of classic Disney characters Winnie the Pooh and Tigger in the game.
In related news, Square Enix has also hinted that it may release a PS4 version of the Kingdom Hearts 1.5/2.5 HD Collections.
