Speaking during an interview with Famitsu magazine, Kingdom Hearts 3 director Tetsuya Nomura spilled a few new gameplay details on the hotly anticipated Disney-RPG, specifically the game’s battle system.
Nomura-san confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 3 will have Situation Commands available, with battles offering numerous options for players.
“Yes, [the game will have Situation Commands]. In [KHIII]’s battles there are a huge amount of options, so players can actively choose which command they wish to fire off. What we see in [KH0.2] can be said to be one small part of this larger system,” he said.

“As we’ve shown once in a [KHIII] trailer, there will also be variations. Locking onto a huge amount of enemies will send Sora flying between them, landing blows as he moves from target to target. Expect to see these sorts exhilarating and fun to execute Shotlocks.”
Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced during Sony’s E3 2013 presentation alongside Final Fantasy 15, and is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game’s release date is still up in the air, although Square Enix recently suggested that both Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are still some ways off.
In the meantime, the Japanese software giant will launch Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Final Chapter Prologue exclusively for PS4 on January 24, 2017, and will bring Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 HD to Sony’s current-generation console in March. It’s also worth noting that the series celebrates its 15th anniversary this year.
