Konami Digital Entertainment has announced the opening of a new Los Angeles studio that will contribute to the development of upcoming games in the Metal Gear series.
The announcement coincided with an opening ceremony at the new Kojima Productions studio, which featured an appearance by series creator Hideo Kojima.
“As gaming takes the world stage as one of the greatest forms of entertainment, it’s only natural for us to expand our operations across the globe,” said Kojima-san.
“…since Los Angeles is ground zero for the best studios, facilities and world-class talent, we are leaning on these local resources to build an incredible team to create gaming experiences that are just as compelling as any film or television show.”
In addition to the franchise expanding, a Western-based studio will likely accommodate Konami’s decision to release the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain on multiple platforms, as revealed at this year’s E3.
Sony fans can grab the Phantom Pain on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, though a release date is yet to be announced.
