New Metal Gear Solid Online details confirm large map sizes, no Trophy support

Konami has unveiled fresh information on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s online component, which comes packaged with the hotly anticipated stealth-action sequel this fall.

The third iteration of Metal Gear Online will feature some decent-sized maps, and will be big enough to accomodate snipers as a viable option for players. In terms of player cusomization, Konami replied with an ambiguous, “It’s important to us, if that helps.”

However, the company revealed that you’ll be able to view other players’ connection speeds on the match-up screen, while hosts themselves won’t be able to set upload speeds.

Pleasingly, Konami is looking at ways to bring the hammer down on potential cheaters, although right now, it isn’t ready to talk about anything regarding possible DLC or Season Pass info. However, Trophies and Achievements will not be featured in the game.

Konami also revealed that an auto-aim feature will be available to toggle on/off, and the controls will remain similar to that of Ground Zeroes’ input, albiet slightly retweaked by the developer.

"While we appreciate all fan feedback, we aren’t looking to fans to decide our entire development plan. We are experienced professional game designers/developers and ultimately decide what works best for the game. Rest assured however we continue to listen to the community and will revise the game as needed. That is why we have sought the community for feedback and regularly take it in. We appreciate the support and hope you will enjoy the system, as free or limited as it feels in context of the game.”

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will ship for PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on September 1, 2015. Check out the Metal Gear Online debut trailer here and view the latest screenshots in our earlier story.
