Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has revealed that a new instalment in the long-running franchise is currently in the pipeline at NetherRealm Studios, although that’s not all that’s coming from the studio.
“We’re definitely pursuing another Mortal Kombat game, and we’re definitely doing more, as well, so there are a lot of parts on the stove, not just with games, though, with other forms of media and whatnot,” Boon told Collider. “So, we’ve got a lot of great announcements that are coming.”
The last entry in the series was Mortal Kombat 1, which released for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S in September 2023. However, there have also been rumours about a third Injustice game after the resume of an artist at Warner Bros. Games listed the as-yet unannounced sequel alongside titles including the Hogwarts Legacy sequel among others.
In related news, the next chapter in the Mortal Kombat movie series, Mortal Kombat II, is due to hit cinemas on May 8, 2026.
