Polyphony Digital has posted up a number of job listings on its official website all but confirming the studio is knuckling down on the next instalment in the Gran Turismo franchise.
While Gran Turismo 8 in name hasn’t been announced yet, the studio stated earlier this year that it was staffing up for a new Gran Turismo project, which considering Gran Turismo 7 turns five-years-old in March, is surely the next main entry in the series. Prior to that of course, we have Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV, which was announced during Sony’s State of Play broadcast last week. This will arrive in two updates scheduled for October and December, and arrive ahead of the 30th anniversary of the series in 2027.
As for the job listings for the new Gran Turismo project, they cover everything from Build Engineer, Racing Programmer, and Graphics Programmer to Vehicle Simulation Programmer and UI Designer. Interesting, the description for the Vehicle Simulation Programmer is quite ambitious-sounding:
“The Vehicle Simulation Programmer will work to improve the vehicle simulation engine of the Gran Turismo series, and recreate mechanisms unique to individual cars,” it reads.
Gran Turismo 7 was released for PS5 & PS4 in March 2022 and Polyphony Digital has kept the game supported over the past four-and-a-half years with numerous content updates, which have included new vehicles, events, cafe conversations, and more. You can read our full verdict on GT7 here. Gran Turismo currently ranks as Sony’s best-selling franchise of all time with over 100 million units sold worldwide.
